Overactive bladder, incontinence, or Interstitial Cystitis?

It's difficult to explain how I got to be 70 years old, have suffered with bladder issues my entire life, but never knew I had a treatable disease until I found Dr. Bosch, a urologist with 42 years experience with IC.

Interstitial Cystitis is a disease that is misdiagnosed as Overactive Bladder or incontinence too often. I have asked primary care doctors as well as multiple urologists about my frequent bathroom trips and urgency issues. One urologist prescribed a medication that caused my blood pressure to shoot up in 1 day. She said there was another medication that was "associated" with dementia. Not interested. She told me about surgeries that may offer some relief. Not interested. She never mentioned Interstitial Cystitis. It wasn't until a family member was telling me that she had been diagnosed with it and explained what it was that the light went on. I had never heard of it before even though it affects 3% of women and 1% of men. I'm very conscientious about my health but this was a new one for me.

I found a study online for Interstitial Cystitis and called about it. I met with Dr. Bosch and although I wasn't a good candidate for the study, he told me there was a treatment for IC that they have been using effectively for over 50 years. Dr. Bosch told me that the study of 104 patients showed improvement in all 104 of them. That's pretty compelling. Dr. Bosch assured me there was help and that I wouldn't have to always find a bathroom everywhere I went. Since treatments began a couple of months ago, my IC has improved tremendously. I can now go out and be bathroom free for hours. I even had a full night's sleep with no bathroom visits. That hasn't happened in many, many years. The secret to health resolutions sometimes is finding the right information and the right doctor.

I'm trying to spread the word about this under diagnosed and under treated disease that affects mostly women. If you or anyone you know has overactive bladder or incontinence please pass on this information to them. They can check with their own doctor or Dr. Philip Bosch. He's the best.
